Introduction

Land at Castledene Transport, Millhall Depot

Welcome to our public consultation website.

This website has been produced as part of our community engagement regarding a hybrid planning application which will be submitted to Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council comprising outline permission the construction of up to 74 dwellings and detailed permission for 4 dwellings through the conversion of the Grade II Listed Goods Shed at the Castledene Transport, Millhall Depot, Millhall, Aylesford, Kent, ME20 7JN.

We are preparing an application for the proposed development, comprising of the following elements:

  • Up to 78 dwellings in total, including up to 40% affordable dwellings
  • Conversion and enhancement of a Grade II Listed Goods Shed to provide four new dwellings ensuring its long-term viability;
  • Shared amenity/open space; and
  • New tree planting and additional landscaping throughout

There would be a single existing vehicle access into the site from Mill Hall Road to the east of the site.

As a hybrid planning application the submission to the Council will include full details of the access and conversion of the Good Shed, with details relating to the wider development, such as the layout, scale, appearance and landscaping, forming part of a future Reserved Matters planning application that will need to be submitted following the granting of the hybrid application.

This consultation website provides details of the site, Castledene Transport and details of the proposed development. There is then an opportunity for you to provide feedback on the proposals.

The feedback received will be reviewed and analysed and used to inform the final application submitted to Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council.

To leave feedback on any respect of the development please click on the Feedback tab which will allow you to submit your feedback. We encourage you to review the draft layout plan before leaving comment.

About Us and Why Are We Moving

Castledene Transport has spent over 40 years building upon its excellent reputation for delivering time–sensitive consignments promptly and efficiently. We have a fleet of over 40 vehicles operating 24 hours a day seven days a week, supported by our traffic office staff who are always on hand to solve any logistical problems as and when they occur.

As the business has continued to grow, we have out-grown our Millhall Depot and the site is no longer fit for purpose. The site has a number of constraints for its operation as a 24 hour, 7 days a week logistics hub with the Grade II listed building on site, the level-crossing over the railway and the recent residential development along the river. Therefore, any potential expansion or intensification of the site is limited.

Consequently, we are actively searching for a new, modern site that will meet our current and future needs in the local area. Whilst a number options are being explored there is a need to ensure the existing site is put to good use. Therefore, we are seeking to establish the redevelopment of the site for residential use. A previous application (ref. TM/07/00241/FL) for a similar redevelopment consisting of 79 Dwellings (58 Apartments & 21 Town Houses) was granted subject to conditions in May 2013. The relevant conditions for this application were also discharged, with no objections raised by any consultees. However, the development was never implemented meaning this permission has since lapsed and therefore we are seeking to renew this permission.

The site is also allocated under Policy H1(d) in the Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council adopted Local Plan in the Development Land Allocations DPD (2008).
